Wrap holds the pallet
Stretch wrap binds a pallet so the load does not shift. It is not parcel tape and it is not a mailer. The polythene category lists pallet stretch wrap separately from bags, tubing and shrink film. Pallet top covers are the sheet that goes over the top of the load, not the wrap that goes around it.
The stretch wrap category says we stock hand pallet wrap, machine pallet wrap and mini pallet wrap. Use hand wrap when someone walks the pallet. Use machine wrap when a turntable or a wrapper is doing the job. Mini wrap is the short roll for a smaller load or for holding a few cartons.
Hand wrap widths and thickness
The category says hand pallet wrap is available in 400 mm or 500 mm widths, in 17 micron standard duty or 25 micron heavy duty, and with standard or extended cores. A heavier load, or a load with sharp corners, is the reason to move from 17 micron to 25 micron. The width is about how much of the pallet each turn covers.
An extended core is about how the roll sits on the dispenser, not about how strong the film is. Match the core to the hand dispenser you already use.
Wrap, strap, or both
Stretch wrap grips the outside of a stable load. Strapping is the band that tensions around the pallet, in polypropylene, polyester or steel. A tall or heavy load often needs strap as well as film. Strapping coils, tools and seals are in the strapping category. Robopac pallet wrap machines are in systems if the wrap is being applied by machine.
Edge and corner protection stops the film or the strap cutting into the cartons. It does not hold the pallet on its own.
